SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Someone shot out a security camera at Booksin Elementary School in San Jose's Willow Glen neighborhood over Veteran's Day weekend.

A spokesperson for the San Jose Unified School District said the broken camera was discovered Monday, but it wasn't until Wednesday they realized someone had fired a gun at it.

Parents who live near the school said they heard the gunfire and called 911.

Many are upset, not only that there was a shooting, but that the district didn't notify them immediately.

District spokesperson Peter Allen told ABC7 News they wanted to get all the facts straight before releasing any information.

Allen also said they want to ensure parents that the incident had nothing to do with the instructional day and that there was no one on campus at the time of the shooting.

The district has turned over bullet fragments found at the scene to San Jose police.
