Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man elected to public office in California, and he's one step closer to getting the memorial some say he deserves.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man elected to public office in California, and he's one step closer to getting the memorial some say he deserves.

At the southwest corner of Market and Castro streets, a worldwide contest was held to redesign the plaza named in his honor.
