United to launch COVID-19 testing program for SFO passengers traveling to Hawaii

SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KGO) -- United Airlines plans to start testing travelers for Covid-19 at San Francisco International Airport before they depart for Hawaii.

The test can be taken the day of a passenger's flight and the results should be available in 15 minutes. If a traveler tests negative, they will not be required to quarantine for two weeks in Hawaii.

The test will cost travelers $250.

Hawaii right now requires travelers to quarantine for two weeks after arriving in Hawaii. The Governor plans to lift that requirement October 15th if the traveler has a negative Covid test.

"Our new COVID testing program is another way we are helping customers meet their destinations' entry requirements, safely and conveniently," Toby Enqvist, Chief Customer Officer at United, said in a press release. "We'll look to quickly expand customer testing to other destinations and U.S. airports later this year to complement our state-of-the-art cleaning and safety measures that include a mandatory mask policy, antimicrobial and electrostatic spraying and our hospital-grade HEPA air filtration systems."

United is the first US airline to provide Covid testing. United plans to add more flights to Hawaii on October 15th. The test site is located in the International Terminal in Courtyard A, which is on level 1, the level below baggage claim. It is open from 9am to 6pm. United's terminal is in the domestic section of the airport.
