SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Police say a woman in her 60s was hit and killed Friday night while crossing Almaden Expressway at Via Monte.
Police said around 6:15 p.m. when she was struck, she was not in the crosswalk. She was on the other side of the intersection where there is no crosswalk.
Police don't have a much of a description of the car that hit the woman, only that the car might be a Honda.
San Jose resident Jenny Alvarado lives nearby said what happened Friday night is terrible. She told ABC7 News, "I think it's not right because, there's a human being that needs to be helped and if people just hit someone and run away because they're afraid, it's not good."
The victim is the third pedestrian hit and killed in San Jose this year.
Police are asking and reminding people to wear reflective clothing at night, or carry a flashlight and to only cross with the light and always in a crosswalk.
As of 11 p.m. the southbound lanes of Almaden Expressway were still closed between Via Monte and Blossom Hill Road. It may still be a few hours before the scene is clear and the road is reopened.
