Easy projects you can make with items in your home

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- We're getting crafty with author and blogger Rachelle Doorley from Tinkerlab.com!

Doorley shows us that no matter how old you are, you're never too young to make art.

She shares the concept of "creative tables." The concept is simple. One person sets up an inviting selection of materials and another person makes something from the materials. There's no right or wrong way about it.

Creative tables can start out simple and can get more complex as children get older. Often times you can create them with items you already have around your home.

How to set up a creative table:

- clear the table of anything that won't be used for the project

- arrange the materials to provoke ideas

- limit the choice of materials to just a few items

- provide clues about how to use the materials but keep the project open-ended so that original ideas can flourish

For more information on creative tables and other fun art projects go to Tinkerlab.com or pick up a copy of Doorley's book, "Tinkerlab: A Hands-on Guide for Little Inventors."
