NASA Astronaut safe after Spacewalk

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- It was almost a perfect spacewalk at the International Space Station until the end.

That's when flight engineer Terry Virts reported water in his helmet while he waited in the air lock.

NASA says the amount of water increased slightly as Virts waited, but he wasn't in immediate danger.

The situation was reminiscent of a near-drowning of an Italian astronaut in 2013.

He barely made it back into the space station after water filled his helmet.

NASA spent months investigating the mishap before clearing the way for more spacewalks.
