MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (KGO) -- Saturday marks an important anniversary, the 25th birthday of the World Wide Web.

In France, there was Minitel. For lawyers, Lexis-Nexis. That all changed when Tim Berners-Lee drew up a flow chart and brought it to his boss who scribbled, vague, but exciting. The idea was for all those different systems to talk to each other. And he had a name for it.

"It was a very ambitious name at the time, for this tiny little experiment from a lab in Switzerland to call itself the World Wide Web," said Marc Weber, curatorial director of Internet History. Watch the video above for Jonathan Bloom's full report.
