PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- The global launch of Apple's iPhone 11 and 11 Pro is happening Friday.

While you can pre-order it for delivery, for some fans, it's tradition to line up at a store and wait for it.

A handful of people lined up on the sidewalk Friday morning at the Palo Alto Apple store to buy the new phone.

David Eaton got here at 7 a.m. Thursday.

"I do this for the experience of camping out. There are actually four people in line this year that I have met over the last few years camping out. This is the 12th year I have done this," said Eaton.

He doesn't even live in Palo Alto. Eaton moved to Dallas but flew back to be here for the launch.

Jonathan Cheng got here at 3 a.m. This is his first time lining up before the store opens for a new phone.

"I am doing this because I like the atmosphere and I want to feel them clapping for me and clapping for everyone out here and supporting Apple," he said.

Fans in Palo Alto were hoping to see CEO Tim Cook, who often appears at the store on launch day. But Cook is in New York for the grand opening of the store on Fifth Avenue.
