Storm Live Updates: Toppled trees, thousands without power across Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area for Saturday calls for rain and thunderstorm in most part of the region.

Daytime highs will be mostly in the high 50s to low 60s on the coast, mid 50s to low 60s around the bay, and in the mid to high 60s inland. Overnight lows will be mostly in the mid 30s to low 40s.

According to the NWS, the North Bay and Bay Area will experience moderate to heavy rainfall Saturday night with strong winds. Strong south winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are possible.

There is a High Wind Warning in the Coastal areas and East Bay Hills until 7 a.m., on Saturday. Meanwhile, there is an ongoing Wind Advisory in the Interior Bay Area and Interior Central Coast effective until Saturday, 10 a.m.

The weather conditions are expected to be the strongest overnight and into late Sunday morning.

Belmont road closed due to flooding

Belmont police asked the public to avoid Shoreway Road on Saturday morning because of flooding caused by rain.

Shoreway Road is closed in both directions between 1301 Shoreway Road to Redwood Shores Parkway/Holly Street, police said in an advisory at about 8 a.m.

About an inch of rain fell in the area over the past 24 hours, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

There was no estimate for when the road would reopen.

Police said the Recology site at 225 Shoreway Road is inaccessible during the closure.

Thousands without power across Bay Area

Thousands of PG&E customers are without power across the Bay Area Saturday morning, according to the company's website.

The largest outages are being reported on the Peninsula and in the South Bay.

The National Weather Service issued San Francisco with a tornado warning on Saturday, the first in the city's history.

ABC7 News Meteorologist Lisa Argen says the closest San Francisco ever got to another tornado warning was back in the 1980s.

CAL FIRE is warning residents in Santa Cruz County about downed trees and debris on roadways across the region.

They are advising drivers to take caution when they hit the roads Saturday morning.
