OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Some Bay Area veterans are turning to medical marijuana for relief from the pain of war, but they aren't getting high.

ABC7 News has already told you about CBD, a non-psychoactive compound in marijuana that's helping children suffering from seizures.

CBD is now available in creams and capsules and veterans are using it to treat everything from their physical pain to PTSD.

Many vets are doing so with help from the Weed for Warriors Project.

"CBD not being psychoactive allows a lot of these veterans to not have the fear of the anxiety of getting high, but still have the benefits of cannabis," Kali Caps & Cremes spokesperson Matt Vigil said.

"Anxiety relief, stress relief, pain relief. I'm able to get a full nights sleep. Six hours of sleep, plus," Weed for Warriors Oakland Chapter President Ramon Araya said.

Araya served in Iraq and an IED explosion left him with shrapnel in his body and a lot of anxiety.
