NOVATO, Calif. (KGO) -- ABC7 Reporter Wayne Freedman has received more than 50 Emmys during his journalistic career, but never has he received special recognition like he did last weekend.

Freedman did a story about someone dropping off dozens of cats at the Marin Humane Society in Novato. He got the word out Friday and the Humane Society had a successful weekend, 21 cats and 42 kittens were adopted.

As a thank you to Freedman the organization named one of the cats "Little Wayne Freedman."

There are still 138 more cats that need homes. Now's the perfect time to take home your own Wayne Freedman as adoption fees are waived through the end of the month.

ABC7 works with shelters all over the Bay Area to help find forever homes for cats, dogs and other animals. Watch our Perfect Pet segment Fridays during our midday newscast!
