ANTIOCH, Calif. -- Antioch police are still looking for a man who went missing from an assisted living facility on Friday and are asking the public for help in finding him.

John Cubit, 86, was last seen around 5 p.m. Friday and staff members at Country Place Assisted Living in the 1700 block of Olive Lane reported him missing around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

He has not yet been located, and police said they are trying to rack down his family Monday for possible leads on his whereabouts.

Acting Lt. Tom Fuhrmann said Cubit appears to have packed up some clothing prior to his departure and might be missing voluntarily, but police need to confirm that he is safe because he suffers from mild dementia.

He is described as a light-skinned black man standing 6 feet 3 inches tall and 180 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes, according to police.

No one at the facility saw what Cubit was wearing before he left, but he often wears a black baseball hat and a black jacket with red stripes on the sleeves, Fuhrmann said.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Antioch police at (925) 778-2441.
