"Hello Barbie" uses WiFi speech recognition and is embedded with a microphone to record children's speech.

Mattel says that technology allows the doll to interact with kids.

The campaign for a commercial free childhood says the doll sends the child's remarks over the web allowing Mattel to eavesdrop on a child's private conversation.

Mattel says "Hello Barbie" meets government standards for privacy and security.

They add that any data the doll collects is secure and can't be accessed by unauthorized users.
