SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- We all know about performance reviews at work, but what about your marriage?

Some experts are now recommending performance reviews for couples.

Marriage therapists say it's helpful to check in on a regular basis to avoid misunderstandings.

One thing the pros say is that's really important is not to be too critical and don't attack your partner's character.

"You want to talk about what's working not just what's not working. Be mindful of how you phrase things, you don't want to attack someone's character and say something like you are so lazy the kitchen's always mess, the homes always mess because that's going to shut down communication," advised relationship expert, Andrea Syrtash.

They also advise on couples to have weekly conversations.
