PETALUMA, Calif. -- An 82-year-old woman was seriously injured Friday when she fell from her vehicle and was then run over by the vehicle.

Officers responded at 11:22 p.m. to a report of an 82-year-old woman who was lying in the roadway on Ely Boulevard South, north of Frates Road.

The woman, a Petaluma resident, had suffered major trauma to her left leg, police said.

Her vehicle, a 2000 Honda CRV, was stopped on a grass area on the west side of Ely Boulevard South about 50 feet north of where the injured woman was located.

Investigators determined the woman stopped her vehicle near the intersection of Ely Boulevard South and Frates Road and for an unknown reason, got out of her vehicle and either fell or got pulled under the driver's side front tire, police said.

The woman was transported to the hospital due to the injury suffered to her left leg.
