SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- All of us at ABC7 believe great stories take kids to amazing places, grow their imaginations, and teach them incredible things to prepare them for bright futures.

Disney and ABC have donated 50 million books to First Book and are celebrating this milestone by inviting you to join our fourth annual Magic of Storytelling campaign! From Jan. 4 through March 31, we'll be celebrating the power of storytelling and providing brand new books to kids in need in our community.

You can share the magic of storytelling in three ways:

  • Vote to win books for your state: Vote for the state of your choice to win thousands of new books for children in need from First Book and Disney. Vote as many times as you like through March 31, 2016. Schools and programs registered with First Book in the winning state will receive 100,000 books. Second and third place states will receive 25,000 and 10,000 books, respectively.
  • Attend a Disney Reads Day event: Celebrate the magic of storytelling on Disney Reads Day - Saturday, February 6. Disney Store's 180 U.S. locations and select participating retailers will feature family-friendly events and activities, including storytime.
  • Show your support on social media: Take a shelfie - a photo with your favorite book or bookshelf - and post it on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with #MagicOfStorytelling. Encourage others to share their love of books by sharing their shelfie. For each shelfie posted to Twitter or Instagram using #MagicOfStorytelling, First Book will direct a book donated by Disney to a child in need, up to 500,000 books.

  • You too can join in the magic of storytelling and help give stories that change lives! Go to www.FirstBook.org/BeInspired to find Disney Reads Day events near you, or to vote online in the "50-State Challenge" to win a donation of books for kids in need in your state.
