Storm dumps more than 10 inches in Sierra delighting skiers, snowboarders

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KGO) -- The first West Coast waves of a week of powerful storms arrived and left skiers and snowboards delighted with more than 10 inches of fresh powder.

Fresh and growing snow blanketed the slopes of the Sierra Nevada, ending a dry spell and raising hopes the drought-stricken state can get much needed precipitation.

There are chain controls along Interstate 80 from Nyack to seven miles east of Truckee. Highway 50 from Kyburz to Meyers is also effected.

The Caltrans camera from near Boreal showed plenty of snow pack and drivers are taking it slow.

Skiers and boarders enjoyed more than 10 inches of fresh powder, with up to 20 more inches expected overnight.
