SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KGO) -- Thousands of prospective University of Santa Cruz students mistakenly got accepted.

The school says it sent roughly 4,000 East Coast high school students emails saying, "Congratulations on your admission to UC Santa Cruz."

The students who received the acceptance hadn't even applied. The school apologized to the students and says an admissions officer accidentally sent the email to the wrong list.
