Stephen Curry will not play for Warriors in Game 2 vs Rockets

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Golden State Warriors fans are pumped to watch their team take on the Houston Rockets tonight in Game 2 of the playoffs.

Officials announced Monday afternoon Steph Curry will not play in tonight's game after he injured his right ankle during Saturday's game.

ROUND 2: The Warriors will face the Houston Rockets in Game 2 on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Curry cut short his pregame routine after appearing to be in discomfort dealing with the tender ankle.

He began his extensive warmup routine before leaving the court about 5 minutes later, putting little pressure on the ankle while taking several shots.

The Warriors had waited to make a final decision on Curry's status until he tried to warm up, then made the announcement about an hour before tipoff. He didn't take part in the morning shootaround on Monday or practice on Sunday after getting hurt late in the first half of his team's Game 1 win Saturday.

Earlier Warriors fans were concerned about how serious Curry's ankle injury might be and about whether he will play at all tonight.

A large crowd of Dubs fans gathered at Oracle Arena to watch the Warriors face off against the Rockets in Game 2 of their playoff series and many of them were optimistic they could win without Stephen Curry.

In a perfect world, Curry would be on the court tonight, but Warriors fans realize it's early in the playoffs, and it's better to play it safe now. "I think we have a great bench so I think we can definitely pull it together, and I think that's OK, you know give him a little rest and everyone else will rise to the occasion," Warriors fan Erin Todoki said.

In the regular season, Curry only missed three games. The Warriors won two out of three of them, one of which was against the Rockets.

"It's good that we've gone through it before. And we will be prepared or we should be prepared if he's not available," said Warriors Andre Iguodala.

Fans say they're not worried: "In terms of how well they will play without him I think they will do quite well," said Sean Coughlin, Warriors fan.

"The Warriors are too deep, they can win it all. Houston is not that good, they'll do fine," said Edward Ho, Warriors fan.

After all, the Warriors not only have home court advantage, but tonight's game is expected to be another sellout crowd, with fans cheering them every step of the way.
