ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- A 14-year-old driving a vehicle without permission led officers in Rohnert Park on a vehicle pursuit Saturday morning that ended in a crash.

Around 1:40 a.m. a Rohnert Park Public Safety officer was on patrol in the area of Southwest Boulevard and Seed Farm Drive when the officer witnesses a vehicle run a stop sign at the intersection without slowing down.

The officer attempted to pull over the black Kia Spectra, but the driver refused to stop, officers said.

The driver headed westbound on Southwest Boulevard at more than 90 miles per hour in an attempt to evade the officer until the vehicle crashed near the intersection of Southwest and Commerce boulevards.

The vehicle ran off the road, struck a road sign and several bushes before finally coming to a stop, officers said.

The driver fled from the scene on foot, and two minor passengers in the vehicle were detained at the scene. The passengers did not suffer any injuries.

Responding units set up a perimeter to try and locate the driver but did not find him.

Investigators determined the driver was a 14-year-old from Rohnert Park who had taken the vehicle without permission.
