Sinkhole closes portion of Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- A sinkhole has closed a portion of Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale this afternoon and repairs are underway, according to the city's Department of Public Safety.

Crews have blocked off the two middle lanes of northbound Lawrence Expressway north of East Arques Avenue, public safety officials said at about 1:20 p.m.

The Santa Clara County Roads and Airports Department alerted the department of the road closure, public safety officials said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Repairs are estimated to be completed around 5:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., according to public safety officials.

No other details on the incident were immediately available.
