SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Police say a man shot his 89-year-old mother to death before turning the gun on himself inside a Santa Clara home.
Santa Clara Police Department Spokesman Lt. Dan Moreno says a concerned relative called police Friday to request a welfare check at the man's home.
Moreno tells the San Francisco Chronicle officers found the bodies of the man and his mother inside a bedroom. Both had gunshot wounds to the head.
He says the bodies had probably not been in the home from more than a day.
The identities of the son and his mother were being withheld pending notification of family members.
