Bay Area universities rank among best in the US

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The list for top colleges across the country is out and some prominent Bay Area schools are making thr grade.

According to the 2017 U.S. News and World Report Princeton maintains its top honor as the best national university.

Stanford is tied for fifth best, scoring a 95 out of 100.

UC Berkeley tied for 20th, but Cal stands alone for the 19th year in a row as the top public university.

And congratulations to San Jose State. The Spartans ranked sixth overall among the West's top public schools, which is up two spots from last year.

Sonoma State cracked the top 10 on that list, with CSU Monterey Bay came in 13th.
