SF police render pipe bomb and grenade safe after small detonation in Potrero Hill

SAN FRANCISCO -- An incident involving a pipe bomb and grenade was rendered safe Monday evening in San Francisco's Potrero Hill neighborhood.

The San Francisco Police Department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team responded to a report of a suspicious device near the intersection of Wisconsin and 22nd streets, police Capt. Raj Vaswani initially said in a Tweet at 5:20 p.m.

The team was able to render the device, which was identified as a pipe bomb and grenade, was rendered safe after a small detonation, according to police.

The incident had impacted traffic in the area.

Additionally, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's inbound line 10 Townsend had been rerouted and the agency said riders should expect delays.

The bus line has since resumed regular service, according to SFMTA officials.
