STOCKTON, Calif. (KGO) -- Stockton police responded to a medical call Friday morning and found something they didn't expect -- more than 86 dogs, 12, cats and a turtle at the home of a 51-year-old woman and a man.

Animal services responded and said, for the most part, the pets were well-fed and healthy, but that the house was no place to fit all those animals.

"We've spoken to the animal owner and it appears to be a case of, he is trying to do the right thing and got out of hand. There is probably mental health issues," said Phillip Zimmerman of the Stockton Animal Shelter.
