HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- More than 100 people donated blood in Hayward Sunday to help relieve a nationwide shortage.

Young women affiliated with the World Mission Society Church of God helped get people excited for the drive which was organized by church leaders.

"A lot of people don't fully understand how important it is to give blood. And they don't really find out how important it is until they have a loved one that is facing a situation where they need blood,"Dante Smith with World Mission Society Church of God said.

Blood Centers of the Pacific is always in need of donors.
