Mountain lion spotted near water towers behind St. Andrews Drive in Brentwood

BRENTWOOD, Calif. -- Police say mountain lion sightings were reported in Brentwood on Sunday and Monday, and have yet to locate the animal.

Police perched on rooftops in San Francisco's Diamond Heights neighborhood for hours on Friday, but they were not searching for a bad guy or even a person at all. All the commotion was over wildlife in the city -- a mountain lion that made itself right at home mere feet from the doorstep of an apartment complex.

Both sightings occurred near the water towers in the 2700 block of Saint Andrews Drive. The first happened around 1:47 p.m. Sunday and the next occurred around 10:20 a.m. Monday.

Responding officers were unable to locate the animal on either occasion, but so far no attacks involving people or pets have been reported,

police said.

Area residents are encouraged to report additional sightings immediately by calling (925) 809-7911 or 911 if the situation is dangerous.

Officials suggest talking or singing if you should find yourself near a mountain lion to make your presence known. If you do come face to face with a mountain lion, wave your arms, make loud noises and never run away.
