BERKELEY, Calif. -- A Santa Cruz man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he allegedly attempted to steal a Zipcar vehicle at the North Berkeley BART station, police said.

At 4:05 a.m. a BART patron called police to report seeing 21-year-old Thomas Hartsaso allegedly smash the window of a vehicle, get inside and try to start it.

Police from Berkeley and BART responded and arrested Hartsaso on suspicion of vehicle burglary.

Hartsaso was taken to the county jail.
