The San Francisco Examiner reports a proposed state bill would allow the city to charge cars to enter downtown.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The San Francisco Examiner reports a proposed state bill would allow the city to charge cars to enter downtown.

If passed, some cities could implement their own congestion-pricing pilot programs, called Go Zones.

Senator Scott Wiener introduced the bill. He says the Go Zones would alleviate traffic congestion, decrease accidents and support other transportation systems.

The bill could be heard as soon as next Monday.
