SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The California Highway Patrol is urging you to be a team player this Super Bowl Sunday by not drinking and driving. If you do, it could cost more than you think.

California's Office of Traffic Safety reports a DUI arrest can add up to more than $17,000. The biggest hit comes from insurance premium increases, which can be upwards of $12,000.

The CHP's most recent Super Bowl stats are from 2012. That year, there were 225 alcohol-related crashes statewide. Of those, eight were fatal. And on that same day, officers made 422 DUI arrests.

AAA is offering you a way to get home safe after the big game this Sunday with its Tipsy Tow service. Drivers will give you a ride home for free and tow your car there, too.

And the best part -- you don't have to be a member of AAA. Just call 800-222-4357 (AAA-HELP). It's free from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
