Midnight deadline to choose health insurance plan

If you don't have health care coverage, time is running out. The open enrollment deadline to sign up under the Affordable Care Act is 11:59 p.m. tonight.

Here in California, free and low-cost coverage comes through the state-run Medi-Cal or Covered California website.

People who start to enroll or make an appointment before the deadline will have until Friday to complete it. If you miss the deadline, you will have to pay a fine on your taxes for not having health insurance.

The city of Oakland is giving you every opportunity to meet the deadline. From 1 p.m. until midnight, the city will hold an open enrollment fair for healthcare coverage.
