SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KGO) -- A popular volleyball coach in Santa Cruz is accused of trying to have sex with a minor.
Officers announced the arrest of 49-year-old Kjell Nilssen.
They said he's been in contact with the girl since he met her three years ago at the Club Shoreline Volleyball.
Nilssen is a convicted sex offender and is required to register annually with local law enforcement. He failed to register with the Santa Cruz Police Department for more than a year and half.
He was booked into Santa Cruz County jail.
