El Cerrito wants cyclists to register bikes

EL CERRITO, Calif. (KGO) -- With bike thefts on the rise, the city of El Cerrito is urging owners to register their bicycles.

The city already changed city code last year to eliminate bicycle licenses.

Now, it's asking bike owners to register through the National Bike Registry or BikeIndex.org.

Also, people can log their bicycles with photos and serial numbers using the El Cerrito Police Department app.
