SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A Bay Area toy store, popular with children and families for nearly 70 years, is closing its doors.

Jeffrey's on Market Street in San Francisco will shut down next month. The store has been in that location since 1970.

Before that, the same family was in business in San Leandro and Hayward dating back to 1946.

The landlord demanded a 500 percent rent increase and the mom-and-pop shop cannot afford it.

Jeffrey's was one of the last remaining independent toy stores in the city.
