MARTINEZ, Calif. -- A male pedestrian was killed in a collision with a vehicle in Martinez Friday evening, according to police.

The collision on Morello Avenue near the state Highway 4 intersection was reported at 8:20 p.m., according to Sgt. Steve Gaul.

Police and medical personnel arriving on the scene found a male pedestrian who was declared dead at the scene.

The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. There were no immediately obvious signs of intoxication, Gaul said.

There were no witnesses other than the driver and investigators are still working to determine the cause of the collision or whether the pedestrian was in a crosswalk when it occurred, Gaul said.
