A San Francisco judge has approved a request from San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi to remove a domestic violence misdemeanor conviction from his record.

In his petition, Mirkarimi noted that his three year probation ended on March 19 and he successfully complied with all terms without a problem. People convicted of misdemeanors routinely have their crimes expunged from the record if they stay out of trouble.

Mirkarimi was arrested in 2012 for bruising his wife's arm during an argument. A video showing the injury was given to police who launched a criminal investigation. Mirkarimi cut a deal with prosecutors to avoid jail time. He is now in a tough re-election battle.
