Police have hack to prevent car hacking

Police say there's a way to stop car thieves from using electronic devices to unlock cars and steal what's inside.

ABC7 previously reported on car hacking and showed surveillance video of a burglar in Sausalito unlocking a woman's car seemingly by magic.

Police said he used an electronic device that activated the woman's key fob, which was sitting inside her house.

Police are advising drivers to keep key fobs in the freezer, or in a microwave oven. The metal doors block a burglar's signal from reaching your a key fob.

Make sure to take the key out of the microwave before turning it on.
