RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- Oakland CHP officers located and arrested the suspected driver in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Friday night on westbound Interstate-80 in Richmond.

Upon their arrival to the scene at approximately 9:52 p.m., officers only located one vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma, on the scene and discovered another vehicle had fled, officials say.

The driver of the Toyota was transported by ambulance to a landing zone off the freeway then transported by medical helicopter to a local area hospital.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Toyota succumbed to his injuries. The identify of that driver is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

Police say they were able to locate the other involved vehicle, a 2013 Nissan Altima, abandoned a few miles from the collision scene on city streets. Further investigation led them to the house of 20-year-old San Pablo resident Jesus Sarabia.

Officers say they were also able to determine that Sarabia falsely reported the Nissan as stolen after the collision.

He was arrested for felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, filing a false police report and providing false information to officers.

This is still an active investigation and any witnesses to the collision or parties who may have information are asked to call the Oakland CHP Office at 510-450-3821 or the CHP's tip line at 1-800-TELL-CHP.
