Crews busy fighting wildfires across California

Firefighters across the state are busy fighting at least a half dozen large wildfires and are keeping an eye on more than a dozen more.

The largest is in San Bernardino County. It's burned more than 16,000 acres in a national forest. Five hundred structures are threatened, but none have been destroyed. That fire is now 15 percent contained.

Just up the coast near San Luis Obispo, a large fire has burned 1,800 acres. Two structures have been destroyed and one person was injured. That fire is now 50 percent contained. An evacuation order was lifted at about 5 p.m. Sunday.

Northeast of Fresno, a 920 acre fire has destroyed three structures. There are mandatory evacuations in nearby communities. It's now 35-percent contained.

Firefighters said the fire is hard to handle because it's constantly shifting.

"We're seeing some fire behavior that some of us have never seen in 25 years because the conditions are so dry," said Cal Fire spokesperson Steve Kaufmann.

Fire authorities predicted an above average chance for wildfire in Central California and Southern California through September.
