Antioch residents petition for speed bump following deadly accident

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KGO) -- A petition drive is underway to slow traffic on a residential street in Antioch following a deadly accident.

Jerry Hudson is behind the drive to install speed bumps on West 11th Street. His 47-year-old son, Tim, was killed last month by a hit-and-run driver doing doughnuts in the middle of the road.

After the accident, someone took matters into their own hands and installed a speed bump but a city crew removed it.

Hudson understands why the city took it out, but he didn't like when it happened - during his son's funeral.

"They must have had the house staked out because the kids across the street said we were gone about four minutes when they all showed up at once. They were just waiting for us to leave. They knew where we were going," Hudson said.

The petition also demands the resignation of the city's manager.

A suspect has been arrested for the hit-and-run.
