CONCORD, Calif. (KGO) -- Starting today, commuters will now have to pay to park at one of the last free BART stations.

Riders will have to pay $1 to park at the Concord BART station. BART is phasing out the last of its free parking lots as ridership is on pace to set a record of 438,000 weekday passengers on average. BART says it costs a $1.33 a day to maintain each parking space in the system.

Next month, paid parking will go into effect at the last three free lots; North Concord Martinez on November 12 and Hayward and Oakland Coliseum after that.
