SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- In San Francisco early Thursday evening, a fire broke out in a parking garage in the One Rincon Hill luxury apartment tower on First Street. That's in the South of Market neighborhood.

Thick, dark smoke poured out of the garage. Inside the garage, firefighters aggressively attacked a car on fire and started spraying it with hoses and activated the sprinkler system.

Crews had to beat the hood of the car open, in order to get inside. They don't know what started the fire.

Traffic around the apartment tower quickly backed up during the rush hour commute.

No injuries were reported.
