"So he came up with his own acronym which is striking at this moment," said father of fire victim Griffin Madden. "And that was, 'you only live forever.'"
Jennifer Morris' father said, "There's a part of our hearts missing today."
There were five members of the Cal community who perished in the Ghost Ship fire, two Cal students, an alumni and a volunteer.
Four of them worked at the campus radio station Kal-x including 21-year-old undergrad Vanessa Plotkin, her roommate, 20-year-old Jennifer Morris from Foster City, 33-year-old musician Chelsea Dolan and 23-year-old Griffin Madden, who was beloved as a volunteer coordinator for Cal performances.
"Griffin had 200 grandparents who saw him come in as a freshman and work through the program," said Bob Dixon of Cal performances.
David Kline, 24, a computer and cognitive science grad also died in the fire.
Tearful families took the stage at this vigil and personalized the heartache.
"Vanessa is my twin sister, my best friend. She is my light, she is my son," said Victoria Plotkin.
