SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A gas-fed mobile home fire in San Jose forced several evacuations before being brought under control.

Firefighters found the home fully involved when they arrived at Montgomery Circle Thursday night shortly after 10 p.m.

"Thankfully the five people that lived there all self-extricated," said San Jose Fire Caption Mike Van Elgort. "I can't emphasize how important it is to have working smoke detectors. These mobile homes burn very quickly. Had this been even later at night, unfortunately we might have had a serious loss of life."

The five people inside got out safely thanks to smoke detectors.

Flames blistered the exterior of two adjacent mobile homes, but firefighters prevented any damage to the interior.
