OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Additional police are expected on the campus of an Oakland elementary school Monday after police say a woman attacked a student there with a hammer.

It happened Friday at Lafayette Elementary School located on Market Street.

Police say Haseemah Diame repeatedly struck a 9-year-old girl with a hammer. Diame is the mother of a second-grade student at the school.

Police are looking into the possibility that it is part of a long-standing feud between the woman and the victim's family.

The young girl was taken to a hospital, but is expected to be OK.
