Fire damages two residential buildings in Mission District

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Monday evening, a fire burning between 628 and 634 Shotwell Street in the Mission District quickly grew to a second-alarm when the fire spread from one residential building to the other next door.

The fire began at 11:08 p.m. and burned the third floor of a residential unit.

Residents in the immediate area witnessed large flames and said the smoke was pretty thick.

According to Mission Local, 628 Shotwell Street is a senior care facility where six residents all out safely. The assisted living home is called the Lorne House. Several people in a nearby building were also displaced.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and there are no other injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
