Four people were rescued from the roof of a house that caught fire in Milpitas.

MILPITAS, Calif. (KGO) -- Firefighters have put out a two-alarm fire at a home on Farmcrest Street near Chipman Drive in Milpitas. Four people were trapped on the roof of the home, but firefighters and police officers helped bring them down. One of them was taken to the hospital with burns. The condition of the person has not been released.

The first call came in just after 2:50 a.m. Firefighters say the fire was on the first floor. After they rescued the people from the roof they were able to knock down the flames in about 15 minutes. During that time about 20 people were evacuated from five nearby homes. They were let back in at about 4 a.m.

Firefighters say people in the burned home will need to stay somewhere else. Red Cross has been called in to help. There is no word on where the victims will stay.
