SAN FRANCISCO -- Fire crews are responding to a gas leak at San Francisco State University this afternoon, a fire official said.

The gas leak was reported at 11:56 a.m. in the 1600 block of Holloway Avenue, the fire official said.

Anthony Lazarus, a school spokesman, said the line was hit and ruptured by a contractor working on construction near the gymnasium.

Gas was immediately shut off and crews are working to repair the line, he said.

Some buildings, such as the Creative Arts Building, will not be able to cook food, but heating in all buildings is not affected, he said.

No one was injured and there were no evacuations, he said.

Lazarus said the campus is fairly empty before the school's fall semester begins on Aug. 25.
