Good Samaritans help rescue trapped horse in highway accident
Officials and good Samaritans helped rescue a horse that became trapped following an accident on Highway 99 in Madera County Monday afternoon.

FRESNO, Calif. -- A trailer overturned with a horse inside on a highway in Madera County Monday afternoon.

A man driving a semi truck entered Highway 99 near Avenue 9, but realized he was going the wrong way so he made a u-turn, but was hit by a truck driver with a horse trailer. The trailer overturned with a horse inside and it became trapped.

CHP officers, firefighters and good Samaritans at the scene helped pulled over to help free the horse. "They said there was a horse stuck in the trailer, so I grabbed the evac from the Butte Fire supplies I have in my car, jumped into action and did what I could to get the horse out," Turlock resident Bobbie Carne said.

A firefighter was injured in the rescue after the frightened horse stepped on his foot.

Officials said the firefighter and horse are going to be fine.
