OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Friends and family members of former Bay Area TV reporter Faith Fancher gathered at Oakland's Lake Merritt Saturday morning to raise money to help low-income breast cancer patients.

Fancher was a reporter at KTVU. She died in 2003 after a long battle with the disease.

ABC7 News reporter Carolyn Tyler was Fancher's close friend and has been part of the non-profit Friends Of Faith organization that helps women and men fighting the disease.

"What we like is the money that we raise stays here in the Bay Area. And we give it to grassroots local organizations that are on the ground helping women and some men who are uninsured, under-insured who are dealing with breast cancer," Tyler said.

ABC7 News anchor Dan Ashley emceed the event. Last year he performed with his band Push.

The Friends of Faith Fundraiser began at the Lake Merritt gazebo near the Lakeview Library branch.
